Did you know that Star House celebrated our 15-Year Anniversary in October? In honor of this milestone, a generous family—who wishes to remain anonymous—pledged to match all donations, up to $20,000, received during the month of October. Thanks to your support, Star House raised $28,083, enabling us to reach our match goal and double your impact! This means that Star House raised $48,083 in October. Thank you for all you do to lift up Star House youth!

On October 19, Star House, along with our partners—Finance Fund and the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority—celebrated the grand opening of Carol Stewart Village, our neighborhood for young adults, ages 18-24, with on-site programs and services. The village opened in fall 2020 and is celebrating one year of providing home and a chance to thrive for young people. Mayor Andrew J. Ginther was among those who spoke at the event, stating that "the young residents of Carol Stewart Village play an important role in our community. Their success is our success, and the city is proud to have supported this project from the very beginning. We look forward to watching residents stabilize and thrive.” We were grateful for the opportunity to celebrate the neighborhood with our community. NBC4 was among the local media in attendance. You can view their coverage of the event, which includes interviews from residents, here.

Star House's transitional employment program, Star Works, connects residents of Carol Stewart Village with on-site employment through start-up social enterprise partners and trauma-informed workforce development partners. Residents have been working diligently with social enterprise start-up, Petals that Inspire, since February, At our on-site workforce space, they are learning the art of floral design—a unique job skill—and developing soft skills for long-term employment. This month, residents are ready to show off their skills by creating beautiful centerpieces for your Thanksgiving table! You can purchase a floral centerpiece here through November 18. You can also purchase a much-needed blanket to your cart, which will be provided to a young person experiencing homelessness. Help us reach our goal of creating 100 centerpieces for the Central Ohio community!
