Dear Friends of Star House,

Since January 1, Star House has served 326 individual guests and, in some cases, their small children at our drop-in center with over 6,000 visits. When visiting our drop-in center, young people are provided safe respite from the streets, immediate access to basic needs (including food, clothing, hygiene items, laundry facilities, showers, etc.) and connections to stabilizing resources, such as housing, transportation, employment, mental health services, addiction services, legal aid, government benefits, ID cards and health care through our on-site partners Nationwide Children’s Hospital and PrimaryOne Health. In addition, to-date, we have filled 52 of 62 apartments at Carol Stewart Village—our first housing village, in partnership with Finance Fund. Thank you for your support, which allows us to meet the unique needs of vulnerable teens and young adults experiencing homelessness in Central Ohio.

Star House is deeply grateful for our community's generous support, which enabled us to continue to provide youth experiencing homelessness in Central Ohio with safe respite, basic needs and access to crucial, stabilizing resources last year throughout the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our team is pleased to share our 2020 Annual Snapshot with you, which demonstrates our impact in 2020. There is still much more work to be done and we look forward to going even further with you in 2021. Together, we can lift young people out of homelessness and into a lasting place to call home.

Join us on May 6, 7 or 8 for a virtual floral arranging class with Petals that Inspire, LLC, one of Star House's workforce partners! Amanda Greenwood, the founder of Petals that Inspire, will walk you through how to create a beautiful floral vase arrangement to enjoy for yourself or gift to someone you love for Mother's Day!

Tickets are $75 each; $25 from each ticket will go back to support the mission of Star House. Your class ticket includes all of the supplies and fresh flowers you will need. Participants will only need to supply floral shears/scissors, water and a little creativity! We will be working with roses, hydrangea and other seasonal flowers.

Star House and Petals that Inspire's floral arranging classes will be held virtually at the following times:

  • Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 7pm-9pm

  • Friday, May 7, 2021 from 7pm-9pm

  • Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 2pm-4pm

Fresh floral class kits, which will be assembled by residents at Carol Stewart Village, will be available for pick-up at Carol Stewart Village (1559 West Broad Street, Columbus OH 43222) the week of the class.

To join us, please RSVP by May 1, 2021.
