Dear Friends of Star House,

Thanks to your support, Star House continues to provide youth experiencing homelessness in Central Ohio with safe respite and crucial connections to stabilizing resources. So far this year, Star House has served 233 individual guests and their small children at our drop-in center. Star House guests are provided access to food, clothing, hygiene items, laundry facilities, showers and a safe place to be. Beyond basic needs, our clinical team provides therapy and case management, and partner agencies provide on-site and community-based access to stabilizing resources, such as housing, transportation, employment, education, addiction services, legal aid, government benefits, ID cards and health care through our partners Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Primary One.

Star House is celebrating Black History Month by acknowledging a few Black celebrities who thrived through homelessness. A few notable figures include Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, "Queen of Jazz" Ella Fitzgerald (the most popular female jazz singer in the United States for more than half a century), philanthropist and author Chris Gardner (who was portrayed by Will Smith in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness," which was about his life), and actor and TV personality Steve Harvey. We are grateful that these famous individuals have shared their stories of struggle and persistence with the world, which brings the issue of homelessness to light and offers hope to those who are currently experiencing homelessness.

As the month of February comes to a close, please consider participating in Star House's "Ride and Thrive Bus Pass Drive." We are hosting this drive to ensure youth experiencing homelessness in our community have access to a crucial resource: transportation. Transportation is one of the main factors that contribute to youth experiencing homelessness. Star House provides transportation for our guests, including bus passes, for purposeful appointments. Please join us in our efforts by donating COTA bus passes or by giving a monetary donation for bus passes here.

This Month's Top Youth Need: Natural Hair Care Products

Star House is in need of new natural hair care products for Star House guests. Star House Clinical Coach, Naima Ilmi, explains above why it is crucial to provide natural hair care products for the youth we serve.

We have included several commonly requested hair care products, such as eco styler, hair oil, scarves, durag caps and hair sponges, on our Amazon Wishlist. You can donate these products directly to us by following the link below.

Monetary Donations

Now more than ever, Star House would benefit greatly from discretionary general operating funding to support our day-to-day services for youth. Please consider making a monetary donation.
